Current station

Compact, practical, and always changing

The KJ5EDM station is built around real-world constraints: attic antennas, mobile operating, hand-tracked satellites, and gear that can be packed up or changed as I learn.

Base HF

Yaesu FT-710 AESS feeding a bent 40/20 meter fan dipole in the attic.

Mobile HF

Icom IC-7100 with Hamsticks and tuner from the Ford Explorer.

Satellites

Icom IC-2730A with Arrow II antenna, hand-tracked during FM satellite passes.

Operating modes

  • SSB and general HF operating
  • FT8 and other digital HF activity
  • Winlink and APRS experimentation
  • FM satellite passes

Current goals

  • Improve portable satellite operating
  • Become comfortable with CW QSOs
  • Continue experimenting with digital and mesh radio projects
  • Keep refining the home HF setup within attic antenna limits
